Finding Your Ace!

LIFE CAN THROW US CURVE BALLS THAT FEEL LIKE A BIG, LOUD NO. From a work lay-off to a relationship breakup to a medical diagnosis– it can feel like we are overwhelmed by NOs. We can’t always control what happens in our lives but we can control how we respond. We can shuffle the cards we were dealt to find our own ace.

We can create our own opportunities to rise with resilience.

Each time that I have encountered a huge challenge in my life from being born with a congenital heart defect, to losing my dad when I was 15 years old to lung cancer, to every time my doctor told me that I couldn’t do something. As soon as I heard the word no, I began to connect the dots in my head to create a plan. A plan that would allow me to make my life work for me! When crafting my plans, I am usually thinking outside the box as I think to myself, okay I can’t do this, this way but how can I do it? Is there a loophole, a way around doing it the so called “right” or “traditional” way but instead create a way that works for me? If I realize that there is not a way to make it work, I then start to ask myself, I can’t do this, but what can I do? My thought process and the questions that I ask myself help me to make my NOs closer to a YES!  This approach enables me to have a resilient response.

How can you use this approach in your life to find your own ace with the cards that you are dealt?
